This is a bonus poem I wrote on C week for the Alphabet Superset Challenge.
Chameleonic Communication
Eyes wide to side, fading into damp foliage,
Until dappled light catches the fly’s wings,
Glints,
Lizard’s tongue whips.
Shocking their mate into another hue on the strike.
Readily shifting by situation, intentional or not,
Alerting their kin of intent.
Their scales are communications of subtle messages,
They form connections with body cues the same as humans do.
Kaleidoscopic am I too under pressure,
Adapting as the Karma Chameleons love to.
I shift to display an array of moods,
Splitting intention via prisms into spectrums
Interpreting colours from muddied white to vivid cues,
That I may respond to as I choose.
We are all chameleonic.
Making meaning of rainbows and movements in others,
Hoping for empathy and to understand our partners.
Each subculture and region with varied chromatic scales used can confuse messages.
From how handshakes are used to appropriate times,
To gaze within another individual’s eyes.
With patience, willingness to learn and openness,
One day we may see infra-red and ultraviolet light we were ignorant of.
Rich lizards are the ones to learn from experiences of another’s life
Orbiting theirs on our stunning blue marble
As it pirouettes around the star.
